Lesvos
is located in the Eastern Aegean Sea,. It is the third
largest island in Greece, following Crete and Evia
respectively. it has an area of 1630km, is 70 km long
and 45 km wide. The largest mountains on Lesvos are
Lepetimnos, on the north side of the island, Olympos and
Psilokoudouno. There are small but fertile plains in the
region of Kallonis, Ipios and Eressos in which small and
large rivers pass through. The two gulfs, Gera and Kalloni,
add to Lesvos distinctive shape. The are also numerous capes
all around the island. The department of Lesvos also
includes the islands of Limnos and St. Efstratio. The
island's capital city is Mytilene, which is situated on the
south-eastern side of the island.
